Call to Name Western-funded Scholarships of Excellence for Black Students

The goal of Western-funded scholarships for Black students is to provide financial support to students with exceptional academic potential from the Black Community. The awarding of scholarships can have a deeper and richer meaning that impacts not only the recipients but the community from where they come.
Naming Western-funded scholarships in honour of Black community leaders who espoused and exemplified excellence in education provides an opportunity to connect Western to the larger community.
For each category of Western-funded scholarships, you may nominate a Black community leader (including posthumously) in honour of whom the scholarship may be named:
President’s Entrance Scholarship for Black Students
- For first-year students with outstanding academic performance, passion for learning and community service
- Five to be awarded each year ($20,000 per awardee for the first year and $10,000 in successive undergraduate years for a total value of $50,000 per student)
Western Continuing Admission Scholarship of Excellence for Black Students
- For high-achieving first-year students
- 30 to be awarded at $6,000, continuing for up to four years, plus $2,000 for optional study-abroad experience
Western Continuing Admission Scholarship of Distinction for Black Students
- For accomplished first-year students
- 10 to be awarded at $2,500 continuing for up to four years, plus $2,000 for optional study-abroad experience
Who can nominate?
Western’s faculty, staff, students, and alumni can nominate names for the honour. To access the nomination form you must use you a @uwo.ca email address.
When are Nominations due?
Nominations are due by July 28th 2022
