Join the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion as we celebrate Women's History Month and International Women's Day with this special talk from Dr. Erica Lawson titled "Gendered Lives and Social Struggles: A Black Feminist Reflection." This talk focuses on the intersections of Blackness and womanhood, where Dr. Lawson will share a narrative reflection on how ordinary women are working for social change in big and small ways.
Bio: Professor Erica S. Lawson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies at Western University. An esteemed scholar and advocate, Dr. Lawson’s work uplifts Black youth and communities, ensuring their voices and aspirations are recognized. Through her insights, we will explore the power of Black women’s stories, the challenges they navigate and the futures they boldly reimagine. Professor Lawson has a long track record of participating in initiatives that focus on addressing the needs of young Black people in education to fulfill their goals and realize their full potential. Her work as an educator and a volunteer focuses on issues of importance to Black youth and their communities.
